Pizza and conversation with Dr. Sharon Norris,
Chief Physician of Occupational Medicine at The Boeing Company Thursday, October 11th 5:30 - 6:30 PM Baker System Engineering 210 Dr. Sharon Norris, Chief Physician of Occupational Medicine at The Boeing Company, met with student chapter members to discuss human physiology concerns related to civilian and military aviation, with regards to pilot, flight attendant, and customer health, safety, and well-being. We learned that in addition to avoiding flying during the last trimester of pregnancy, it is also not a good idea to fly shortly after scuba diving or after having a dental procedure. We also learned that the cabin of a commercial flight is pressurized to mimic the atmosphere at 8000 ft, so anyone with a medical condition that limits the amount of oxygen that is successfully taken in or circulated in the body, can find flying physiologically challenging. Thank you Dr. Norris for sharing your knowledge and insights with us! |
